Small Turned And Burned Tea LightsJul 04, 2010

Here’s a few small tea lights that I turned recently. They are approximately 2 1/2″ in diameter and 2″ tall. Each of them have their own style and design.

Small Turned And Burned Tea Lights

Like all the other pieces in the Peyoke series they feature some pyrography and they are finished with EEE Cream and Shellawax. The stained areas have a coat or two of wipe-on poly on them.

Making these small tea lights is where I started with the Peyoke series. I found it really hard to see my ideas on pieces of scrap wood and I wanted to see them in real turned projects. Obviously, for these ‘practice pieces’ I wanted something quick and easy to do but that would give good representation of what I had in my head. The tea lights fit the bill perfectly, and in addition to being a great ‘canvas’ they ended up becoming quite a nice little project when completed. I turned a dozen of them in a short time which gave me the springboard for the larger pieces.

Here’s some more photos of these three, starting with this one:

A Peyoke Drum Bowl Made Of MapleJun 25, 2010

Here’s a different take on a bowl that I did recently. Its straight side, flat bottom and accents reminds me of a drum, hence, a drum bowl. :)

A Peyoke Drum Bowl Made Of Maple

It is made of Maple and it’s 8″ (20cm) in diameter and 2″ tall (5cm). The rim and base are accented with a series of small burned dots and then stained, giving great contrast to natural Maple side.

The natural Maple has been finished with U-Beaut combo and the stained area has been given a coat of wipe-on poly.

Here’s a few more photos:

A Maple Bowl With A Blocked BandJun 24, 2010

Here’s another bowl in the Peyoke series that I turned out of Maple. It has a stained band that was carved and burned in a block pattern with a large ‘dot’ in their centers .

A Maple Bowl With A Blocked Band

It is 6 1/2″ in diameter and 2 1/2″ tall and finished like the others with EEE Cream and Shellawax. There’s a coat of wipe-on poly on the stained area.

Here’s some more photos of this bowl:

More Burned And Stained Tea LightsJun 23, 2010

Here are four more burned and stained Maple tea lights that I done recently. These are also done in the Peyoke style and approximately 4 1/2″ in diameter and 2″ tall and fit a 1 1/2″ glass cup with a candle.

More Burned And Stained Tea Lights

Each one has a different shape, burned and carved accents and stained areas. They are all finished with EEE Cream and Shellawax. The stained areas are finished with wipe-on poly.

These tea lights, like the previous ones, gave me the opportunity to try out these different ideas on actual pieces.

Here’s some more photos showing the individual tea lights, starting with the first one:
