Burned And Stained Tea LightsJun 19, 2010

Here’s a few tea lights that I turned recently. They are approximately 4 1/2″ in diameter and 2″ tall and fit a 1 1/2″ glass cup with a candle.

They are finished with EEE Cream and Shellawax. As well, the stained areas are finished with wipe-on poly.

Like my other projects in the Peyoke series they each have their own style of accents done by carving, burning and staining.

Here’s some photos of the individual tea lights:

A Wide Rimmed Maple Peyoke BowlJun 12, 2010

Here’s a wide-rimmed bowl in the style of my Peyoke series. It is made of Maple and features a burned and stained ring with a row of burned ‘dots’ circling the bowl. The bottom of the bowl is also contrasted with a stained ring.

The overall size of the bowl is 8″ with the rim at 1 1/2″ and the bowl itself is 5″. It sits about 2″ high. The rim is 1/4″ thick.

It is finished with the U-Beaut finish. The stained areas are finished with a coat of wipe-on poly.

A Couple Of Small Turned Birch BoxesJun 10, 2010

Here I’m continuing with my Peyoke series but this time with a couple of small turned boxes. These were both made out of Birch and both are 3 1/2″ tall and 2 1/2″ in diameter.

I used a variety of burning styles and accents and played with the staining a bit on one of them to give it an ‘antique’ look. Both were finished with a couple of coats of wipe-on poly.

Here’s some more photos showing each individual box starting with the first one:

Textured Maple Bowl With BurningsJun 08, 2010

Here’s another bowl in, what I have come to call, the Peyoke style. It is made of Maple and it is 5 3/4″ in diameter and 3″ tall. In addition to the burning this bowl also features a textured band.

The textured band certainly gives the bowl a tactile effect, making the handling of the bowl a different and enjoyable experience. This area was kept natural without any finish while the other natural areas were finished with EEE Cream and Shellawax. The burned and stained area was finished with a coat of wipe-on poly.
